Welcome from the Co-Chairs

  • Welcome from the Programme Committee Cochairs

    Dear colleagues,

On 14-16 October 2014, Moscow will host the 5th SPE Russian Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Technical Conference and Exhibition (ROGC). Since the conference launch in 2006 it has become a key international scientific and technical forum on oil and gas exploration and production in Russia.

ROGC is the place where industry professionals and oil and gas producing companies can meet representatives of leading universities and institutes, and where service industry representatives have a chance to network with leading research institutes.

This event is the place to share experiences and collect best practices in applying technology today and addressing the challenges of tomorrow.

The main theme for 2014 conference is 'Sustaining and optimizing production: challenge the limits with technology.'

The Conference Programme Committee selected this theme of sustaining production levels as one of the most important challenges Russia and other producing countries now face. Sustainable development for the industry is a shared responsibility that needs action today.

A key challenge for energy companies is how to develop business strategies and practical implementation plans to sustain and increase production, while demonstrating the highest standards of environmental stewardship and socially responsible performance.

Field development will result in reserves deterioration and the role of unconventional and hard to recover reserves will increase. The development of unconventional reserves will require new technology applications as well as financial investment.

Production drawdown at major fields is compensated with new upstream asset development as well as with more effective operations on existing fields.

With the depletion of conventional reserves the industry will need to increase the exploration works in remote and underexplored areas as well as implement state-of-the-art seismic technologies to discover new deposits in explored areas. For the effective development of hard-to-recover reserves industry will require the improvement of existing technologies as well as new technology implementation, development of new equipment, and enhanced oil recovery techniques.

This year in addition to the standard technical disciplines, the Program Committee has selected a few topics for paper submission which are really important for the industry today including:

    • New approaches and technologies for sustaining production on brownfields
    • Full-field development on greenfields in East Siberia, Yamal and others
    • Unconventional and hard-to-recover reserves

The Program Committee would like to invite you to submit your abstracts for the 5th SPE Russian Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Technical Conference and Exhibition.

Preference will be given to papers written in compliance with SPE standards and guidelines and with clear presentation of the findings. This will allow the Program Committee to select the most interesting and important reports, with a mix of expertise, innovation, traditions, and state-of-the-art practices.
